“I want to be happy”
If this is your disposition to life, trust me, it is very valid.
A lot of us are actually in pursuit of happiness anyway, the reason why it seems to elude many of us is that we probably define happiness wrongly or we are chasing the wrong things to bring us happiness.
It is expected that you find the answers if you want to be happy and have not figured out how to be happy or remain happy.
So, what are the tips on how to remain happy?
8 Tips to Remain Happy Through All Situations
1. Stay Positive
According to the Bible, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Truer words than this have never been spoken or written.
It is very evident from our world that we attract the same energy, we carry around.
If you stay filling your mind with negativity because you don’t think there is anything positive going on in your life, you are likely to attract negativity and stay unhappy.
But if you give yourself a chance to see that life throws curve balls to everybody and it is part of being alive, it will be easier to be hopeful and happy.
And truly, you are not building castles in the air; this too shall pass and it will get better.
Keep holding on; there is light at the end of the tunnel and it is just a matter of time before you reach it.
2. Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
If you are a perfectionist like me, then you know this is not exactly the easiest thing to do.
But it is not impossible.
Just learn to take yourself to seriously; remember nobody is perfect. Making mistakes is part of being human
Laugh at yourself for the silly mistakes you make and resolve to do better next time.
That way, you reduce the pressure you put on yourself to be perfect that can hinder you from remaining happy.
3. Don’t Regret the Past, Learn from It
Believe it or not, everybody has a past; even your colleague at work or neighbour whose life seems all put together.
We all have done something we regret and probably will do something we will regret.
You cannot change the past, quit dwelling on it. Look at it as a learning section and try to learn from the errors of your past.
4. Be Content
One reason why people find it hard to remain happy is that they are either being greedy or coveting their neighbour’s property.
As long as we are on earth; you will always find someone who has something that you don’t even have at all or more than you have.
There is really nothing like learning to be contented.
Contented people are the happiest people.
Strive to be better at every point in life but make sure the only person who is your competition is you.
If you get into a rat race with others, you will be doing that at the expense of your happiness.
5. Stop Seeking Validation from Others
Humans are never satisfied.
Let us just put that out there. You can never please humans because we are the most complex of all of God’s creations.
If you want to live your life pleasing others, it is only a matter of time before you get miserable.
Live right, pleasing God and people will adjust to it.
6. Take Time to Spend with Loved Ones
There is something fulfilling and satisfying about being around loved ones that just cannot be put into words.
The people who love you will uplift you and just fill your heart with warmth; that is why you should take time to be around them.
Work is great and adding value also makes us happy but there is a kind of deep satisfaction that only love can give; seek it.
7. Take Responsibility
It is easier to blame others and our circumstances for the way we turn out and the certain things that happen to us.
If we stay blaming, we will never take responsibility enough to deal with the issue and come out a better person.
It is possibly true that others and circumstances caused certain situations in our life but according to a wise saying, life is 20% what happens to us and 80% how we react to it.
So life has happened but if we want to remain happy, we have to make an effort to actually remain happy by taking responsibility for our part and dealing with it headlong.
8. Live
There are so many people who, in their bid to be happy, ironically chase after things that don’t bring total happiness.
Don’t spend your life chasing money and other material things; they don’t bring long-lasting happiness.
Spend time with loved ones, relax, travel and enjoy the life you have been given.
Live; don’t just exist.
9. Render Help
There is something about putting a smile on other people’s faces that makes us happy.
Maximise it.
Render help to friends and family; render help to people who need it; volunteer; and give to charity; all these will go a long way in helping you remain happy.
10. Be Thankful
It is very easy to fall into the trap of thinking your life is the saddest life around and all the world’s problems are on your shoulders.
But all you have to do is widen your horizon to see that you have plenty to be thankful for.
Being thankful for what you have will always keep you happy.
