How do you keep a man? That is a popular question women ask. I wonder why we do but we do.
And for many years, I have heard and read different answers.
“Do this and your man will stay with you.”
“Do that and your man will be faithful to you.”
But the truth is that I had to learn – thankfully not the hard way – that there is actually nothing you can do to keep a man.
A man is not a possession that can be kept.
I mean, we cannot even always keep our possessions. No matter what we do, we can lose our possession.
And somehow, we believe we can actually do anything to keep a human being, with a reasoning faculty and a choice.
There is really nothing to be done to keep a man.
If you want to know how to keep a man, you need to learn that it is only a man that wants to be kept that can be kept.
Now, don’t misunderstand; I am not saying you should take your partner for granted or make no effort in your relationship.
If you want to have a healthy relationship, it goes without saying that you have to work hard at it; you have to make an actual effort and be intentional about your relationship.
That means you have to make efforts to make him happy, you have to learn his love languages and also be in his corner.
But remember that doing all these should be as a result of your love for him.
If you love someone, their happiness should be a priority for you.
However, the problem is when you do those things because you feel they can keep him.
No, they cannot and you will only get disappointed if he ever decides he doesn’t want to be kept or worse still, you will blame yourself, thinking you should have done more.
Love your partner, make him happy but have it at the back of your mind that doing all these is simply as a result of love and not in a bid to keep him because it doesn’t work that way.
