When the issue of Nicki Minaj and Tasha Cobbs came online, I deliberately stayed away from it.
This was mainly because I had yet to form a comprehensible thought on it.
And also because I didn’t just want to join the bandwagon.
I didn’t want to join the group of people who just wanted to have an opinion or just have something to say about a trending topic.
Plus, I didn’t want to say the wrong things really. I am serious about the things I put out there especially as they have to do with God.
And just in case you are waiting to read my thoughts on it, I still don’t have any thoughts on Nicki Minaj and Tasha Cobbs.
Sorry to disappoint you.
But I do have something to say that is related to the subject.
In one of the arguments I read, someone said the reason people – or more accurately Christians – are against the collaboration is that they think they are better than Nicki.
You know, I thought about that for a long time and I sincerely don’t want to think of myself as better than anyone.
Not because of any saintly or modest reason, but because I know I am not better than anyone.
I have done wrong, I still do wrong and I will likely still do wrong, so I am not at all better than any sinner out there.
But you see, I am different.
The issue with us Christians is that we want to sound politically correct or diplomatic and not say things as it is so we would not be persecuted.
We avoid backlash, so we say everybody is accepted, God can use anybody and all them derivatives.
That sounds beautiful to the ears really – reminding me of 2 Tim 3 where the Bible talks about how men would have itchy ears when the perilous times shall come – but it is not true.
before going for the jugular, follow me; I am going somewhere.
You might not be better than the sinner out there – in the terms of morality – but you are very different from the sinner out there because you have Jesus.
The fact you have Jesus makes all the difference. And because you have Jesus, you are not a sinner.
The sinner might be a better moralist than you but he or she is still a sinner because he has a sinful nature and is still in darkness.
What makes a sinner a sinner is not because of lies, stealing or the usual list of sins we know, it is because of the sinful nature.
Adam, when he fell, plunged us into that sinful nature. Therefore, every good that man does is borne from sin. If you think about it, you will see that the root cause of man’s goodness is because of self.
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:5
The only goodness that God can approve of is the goodness that comes from Him and because He can see we cannot, of our own, achieve His standard, He provided Jesus as our mediator.
Now, the only way out is through Jesus.
“I am the way, the truth and the life …” John 14:6.
When you came to Christ, you were given a new nature and became the righteousness of God in Christ in Jesus.
You became approved not because of your good work but because of what Christ did on the cross and because you decided to key into that provision.
“Therefore as by the OFFENCE of one (Adam) JUDGMENT came upon all men to CONDEMNATION; even so by the RIGHTEOUSNESS of one (Jesus) the free gift came upon all men unto JUSTIFICATION of LIFE.” Romans 5:18
Automatically, whether the world likes it or not, God sees you differently. You are saved, no longer condemned to die. He sees Jesus when He sees you.
That doesn’t mean He hates those who have refused to believe, it is just that you are both not in different places.
See some of the things the scriptures says about you;
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD in HIM (Jesus).” 2 Cor 5:21.
“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in HEAVENLY PLACES in Christ Jesus:” Eph 2:6.
“But ye are a CHOSEN GENERATION, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, AN HOLY NATION, A PECULIAR PEOPLE; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath CALLED YOU OUT OF DARKNESS INTO HIS MARVELLOUS LIGHT;” 1 Pet 2:9
“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath DELIVERED us from the POWER OF DARKNESS, and HATH TRANSLATED US INTO THE KINGDOM OF HIS DEAR SON: IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD, EVEN THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS:” Col 1: 12-14
There are more truths about your identity in Christ now. You are no longer in darkness and you are no longer a sinner; you are now a saint, a holy person, seated with Christ in the heavenly places, redeemed, forgiven, justified and the righteousness of God.
All what a sinner is not.
Don’t let anybody make you feel guilty about identifying your place in Christ and knowing you are different.
This, however, is what is said of the sinner;
“He that BELIEVETH ON HIM IS NOT CONDEMNED: but he that BELIEVETH NOT IS CONDEMNED ALREADY, BECAUSE HE HATH NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. AND THIS IS THE CONDEMNATION, THAT LIGHT IS COME INTO THE WORLD, AND MEN LOVED DARKNESS RATHER THAN LIGHT, BECAUSE THEIR DEEDS WERE EVIL.” John 3:18-19
They are sinners because they rejected the light of God and you are righteous because you accepted the light of God.
Now understand that I am not telling you all these, so you can boast.
I am telling you this in the first place to humble you. You are probably the most unworthy, just like me, of the gift.
If the moralist around you who you feel is the best human being that has walked the face of the earth is rejected because they don’t believe in Christ, then you should be humbled because if it was by works, you would be nowhere near the radar.
It is for you to know that you should give all glory to God and none to yourself because you did nothing to receive this great gift.
All you did was believe, which is still nothing because if your heart wasn’t quickened to believe, you would probably be like one of the atheists arguing against the Father’s existence.
“For by grace are ye SAVED THROUGH FAITH; and that NOT OF YOURSELVES: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD: NOT OF WORKS, LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST.” Eph 2:8-9
“But we have this TREASURE IN EARTHEN VESSELS, THAT THE EXCELLENCY OF THE POWER MAY BE OF GOD, AND NOT OF US.” 2 Cor 4:7.
And secondly, I am telling you so you can see the urgency with which they need Jesus.
If we begin to be politically correct and make them feel everything is alright, we would not only be in the danger of not telling them about Christ, but they would also not see the need to know Christ.
It is only the sick that the doctor attends to, he doesn’t bother about the healthy.
If they are healthy, we wouldn’t bother about their salvation.
Identifying someone as not in light is not out of pride or judgment, it is to identify why they are in need of the gospel.
And just in case you are wondering, they are in the church too. Being in church for years isn’t a guarantee that a man is in Christ.
Anybody can be in church. Churchiness is not the guarantee, Christ is.
Christ is the difference.
