I had an argument with a guy a while back and the reason for the argument is that the guy was questioning how David should be termed righteous after all the atrocities he committed, so much so David was called “a man after God’s heart.

Of course, I did not agree with him. How could I?

Not when I had had several teachings about how David was always sober when he erred against God and all the sacrifices David gave unto God out of the volition of his heart.

For instance, when David was not comfortable that he lived in a fine palace while the ark of God was living in a tent, God was moved.

God could not believe that man could be that thoughtful towards Him and even though He rejected David’s offer, it touched His heart.

These are all the things I always believed worked for David.

But you see, at the point of my argument, it didn’t occur to me how awesome God’s forgiving nature is.

I guess that is what I missed from that guy’s argument.

He just could not understand how David could be forgiven like that and even called him righteous, even though, we have today, people who have done worse and God has still forgiven.

The Holy Spirit just impressed it on my heart recently in my study 1 Kings how forgiving our Father is.

Like I said, I knew before that David was forgiven but the extent at which he was shocked me when I saw it.

I figured that every time God spoke to the kings that came after David and made mention of his servant, David, God spoke about how David walked with Him.

You might be wondering what that has to do with forgiveness. Follow me; you will see what I mean.

When God spoke to Solomon, Jeroboam and the rest, He mentioned David, let us go to the scriptures.

“And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you long life.” 1 Kings 3:14.

“As for you, if you will follow me with integrity and godliness, as David your father did, obeying all my commands, decrees and regulations, then I will establish the throne of your dynasty over Israel forever.” 1 Kings 9: 4-5a.

“He has not obeyed my decrees and regulations as David his father did.” 1 Kings 11:33b.

“… if you obey my decrees and commands, as my servant David did, then I will always be with you …” 1 Kings 11:38.

And on and on like that.

When we think about it, did David follow God’s decrees and commands as much as God kept telling every one of them? NO

He was not keeping the Lord’s decree and command when he slept with Bathsheba and had her husband killed.

But you see, as far as God was concerned David never did those things because he had been forgiven. God had forgotten about it.

It reminds of the story I heard of a little boy who told people that God comes to visit him at night. Nobody believed him. How can God visit you when He has not visited us who are adults, they probably thought?

But the boy insisted he spoke to God. So one day, his pastor told him to ask God the last sin he had committed.

The little boy came back the next day and he said yeah he asked God. So what did God say? God said according to the boy, “hmmmm … I have forgotten.”

Can you imagine? God, the maker of the universe forgetting something? Well, that is how much forgiving our Father is.

You know, the only time when David’s indiscretion was mentioned was the narration by man and not when God spoke directly.

“For David had done what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight and had obeyed the Lord’s commands throughout his life, except in the affair concerning Uriah the Hittite.”

Here is why we cannot comprehend how much God forgives; our human mind cannot comprehend it.

Here is the narration making reference to Uriah because it was written by man but when it says “and God said,” David never had issues with Uriah.

I know a lot of people are probably thinking that that was David but you see we have evidences of people in our days and age who were murderers, adulterers and all kinds of vices that we think are too big for God to forgive but He forgave and doesn’t hold it against them any longer.

Do not let the devil let you wallow in guilt over your past. If you have confessed them before God, He has forgiven you and even more amazing, He has forgotten it.

Don’t break His heart, running from Him in shame because you think you are not deserving of being in His presence.

Don’t be ignorant of God’s forgiving nature. That is what the devil wants, that is why he keeps accusing us.

But God wants you to know He has forgiven you and He loves you. So come to Him!
